I just had to share this TED talk.  Absolutely fascinating.

I have been looking a lot into microbiome recently, and especially with relation to the birthing process, so what this guy has to say at 7 minutes in is really interesting.

I can also relate to the havoc wreaked by antibiotics.  For the first time in my life, I had to take two different courses of antibiotics for a total of 3 weeks immediately after giving birth, and the list of ongoing issues after that has been crazy.  I swear it’s because my gut health was destroyed.  Don’t for one minute think that I’m saying that you shouldn’t take antibiotics – of course there are times when it’s absolutely necessary – but it’s certainly worth looking at all options and when there is no other option then make sure you take a good quality probiotic alongside your medication and afterwards.  In fact, I recommend that probiotics should form part of your daily supplementation.

Anyway, enjoy this TED talk.  I think it’s really worth a watch.
