Last year I posted a festive workout entitled “The 12 leaps of Christmas.” It was so popular that I recreated it this year (with various different exercises) for some of my 1-1 clients and bootcampers.

It’s a very simple format – just imagine you’re singing along to the tune of “The 12 days of Christmas” and you won’t go far wrong! Essentially it works as an accumulator – adding a new exercise each round:
On the first day of Christmas, Amber gave to me, 1 front get down.
On the second day of Christmas, Amber gave to me, 2 burpees and a front get down.
And so on.
Of course if you are short on time you could just work through the 12 exercises once through (or do 2-3 circuits depending on time available), but I really like doing this all the way through the entire song. It helps if you do actually sing along a bit too 🙂

Here’s the variation I did with my Waterbeach bootcampers this week.

After all that leaping around, you might fancy a bite to eat, so here’s a lovely recipe I came across for spiced christmas almonds. They make a great snack, and will prevent you consuming an entire tin of Quality Street! Not that I think you shouldn’t be eating any festive treats, of course. (See this article for some very sound advice).

All that remains is to wish you a very Merry Christmas. I really hope that, however you celebrate and whoever you’re with, you have a wonderful time. It’s a special one for me, as it’s my first as a Mummy. Although my little boy won’t understand what’s going on, he’s old enough (8.5 months) to appreciate the sparkly lights, play with boxes and discarded wrapping paper, and recognise that some of his favourite people are all together. I can’t wait.
